MENTAL HEALTH LITERACY IN AG
Book an In The Know Workshop in Alberta
In The Know is a mental health literacy program designed specifically for farmers, their families and those who are involved and/or support the agriculture sector.
Developed specifically for the agricultural community, In the Know is an award-winning, evidence-based mental health literacy workshop designed to help farmers, their families, and agricultural workers to identify mental health challenges and connect with appropriate support.
It includes several case studies and real-life farm scenarios tailored to the agricultural community's rigid daily routines.
The primary learning goals of the program include:
Recognize Signs and Symptoms: Understand and identify warning signs of mental distress, including stress, depression, anxiety, acute trauma, suicide, and substance use.
Understand Agricultural Stressors: Gain awareness of the unique occupational stressors and mental health concerns that specifically impact the farming and agriculture sector.
Reduce Stigma: Increase awareness of existing mental health stigmas in the agricultural community and help dismantle barriers to asking for help.
Build Conversational Confidence: Learn how to comfortably and safely initiate conversations about mental health and well-being with peers, family members, or colleagues who may be struggling.
Promote Self-Care: Recognize the importance of personal well-being and identify practical strategies for supporting the mental health of both yourself and others.
Length: 4-hour interactive workshop (with breaks)
Format: In-person or virtual
Cost: Free for participants. There may be costs for booking a venue, food/beverages, and travel for the facilitator.
How is this different from COMET? In The Know helps people respond when someone is already showing signs of distress, while COMET focuses more on the earlier "vulnerable space" before crisis.
